Pitchcare Magazine: Developments in Sustainable Developments

From Pitchcare Magazine:
harrogate 2011 182"The Golf Environment Organization & British Association of Golf Course Constructors have established a partnership that will see the bodies collaborate closely around the sustainability issues of golf construction.

The move follows the recent publication of the GEO Legacy™ Guidance for Sustainable Golf Development, which feature a common sense checklist for protecting and enhancing air, water, soil and ecology during the construction phase of golf developments.

BAGCC members will be invited to provide ongoing input to the evolution of the guidance - to help to keep it up to date and relevant as construction approaches and engineering technology improves. They will also be encouraged to submit case studies of best practice to be published alongside the guidance.

At the BAGCC reception during the Harrogate Week Show, Jonathan Smith, GEO Chief Executive said: "Of course, we are pleased to establish a working partnership with BAGCC and to be engaging on this subject with some of the world's leading golf construction companies. For us this is a great opportunity to collate constructors' perspectives and real world case studies - which we can then promote back across the sector, but also across the environmental networks and partners we have developed in recent years."

Brian D. Pierson, Chairman of the BAGCC, congratulated Jonathan on the achievements of the GEO stating that: "The BAGCC are proud of their track record of environmentally-friendly course construction and are pleased to agree to a joint statement of endorsement for the GEO Legacy Guidelines and look forward to future meetings enabling our members to network with other GEO partners around the world.""
